Pivonka Chiropractic in Gilbert has always and will always take care of kids. Some people look at us weird when we say that and ask why would a child need Chiropractic care? Well for the simple fact that you only get one spine and if you don’t take care of it from an early age on then you can’t count on it being there for you when your older.
Plus the spine surrounds and protects the most vital organ of your body, your spinal cord! So I would think that everyone would want to take the best possible care of their spine. Another reason is that Chiropractic has always been the leader in natural health that doesn’t involve drugs or surgery. We have always preached a preventative lifestyle that prevents disease. But since that doesn’t make money for pharmaceutical companies Chiropractic gets attacked and looked upon as being inferior. All while the drug companies systematically work to ensure that every human on the planet is a customer of their products and they have no problem with starting kids as early as possible.
A prime example is a national survey done by researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia showing drastically increased use of powerful antipsychotic drugs in children 3-18 years old. Kids on public health programs had a 62% increase in the use of anti-psychotic drugs reaching a total of 354,000 in 2007, with 65% of these drugs being prescribed “off label” meaning that there is no evidence that the drug is effective for the condition prescribed and has not been FDA approved for use in children. SCARY!! The study states that the reason that anti-psychotic drug use in kids is on the rise is because they have come up with more mental health disorders for kids, especially if you are a kid with public health insurance. The study also states that the use of these drugs in children has been linked to an increased risk of serious metabolic side effects. So these kids will need more drugs in the future to treat those disorders. Brilliant business model by the drug companies, creating more lifetime customers.
Pivonka Chiropractic in gilbert has always strived to educate parents on the benefits of routine spinal maintenance for children and the positive health effects that come from it. These effects range from less need for medications for allergies, asthma and adhd. We have also always attempted to educate parents about proper nutrition which plays a HUGE role in the health of kids. Studies have shown that the primary vegetable eaten by most kids in the U.S. is french fries. Improper spinal/neural function and poor nutrition are the leading causes of most of the conditions we see kids being medicated for. But our message is drowned out by the effective smear tactics of the drug companies. However, we will continue to spread our message one spine at a time. Kids always do better on less or NO DRUGS! If you have a child that is experiencing poor health and you are seeking help please give us a call and we will do our best to help you improve your childs health, NATURALLY! A Recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle reviews recent information about the validity of lower back surgery. The article quotes information from a study done in Washington state by a Dr. Benjamin J. Keeney and published in the Journal Spine entitled Early Predictors of Lumbar Spine Surgery After Occupational Back Injury: Results From a Prospective Study of Workers in Washington State. What this study showed was that out of 1185 injured workers 174 or 9.2% had surgery within 3 years of the injury. Whats intriguing about the study though is that if the patient consulted a surgeon first than 47 % of these cases ended up in surgery, however, if the patients consulted with a Chiropractor first than only 1.5% of cases ended up in surgery. This equates to a 96.5% reduction in the need for surgery based upon the first doctor the person saw.
Other research out of norway and published in the December 2012 issue of the European Spine Journal, revealed that patients who sought conservative care over surgery had less chance of needing surgery in the first place by 66% and of those who had surgery 33% needed it again. When looking at both groups on follow-ups both had the same quality of life and ability to function. Therefore the need for surgery was shown to be almost unnecessary.
This recent evidence once again shows the superiority of conservative care aka Chiropractic care for lower back pain.

What’s the difference between H.I.T (High Intensity Training) offered at Pivonka Chiropractic in Gilbert Arizona as Next Level Fitness and traditional volume training? Which of the two will give you the best results and the most benefits? Why would anyone choose H.I.T. over any other method of exercise?
When doing H.I.T. you significantly decrease the volume aka duration of training time. Since you decrease the amount of time you are exercising you are then able to increase your intensity. No one could exercise at 100% intensity for an hour and a half, or even an hour workout. So which of the two is better longer duration (traditional training) or intensity (H.I.T.)?
First let’s talk about the time aspect. Most people don’t have a lot of time to spare. A traditional workout takes anywhere from 1-2 hours. A H.I.T. workout takes about 20-30 minutes. Traditional training normally consists of a resistance or strength training portion (typically about an hour long), and a cardio portion (also anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour long). The H.I.T. workout is faster paced; therefore cardio and resistance training are combined. Knowing that your time is valuable, why would you waste it?
With that big of a difference in time there is no way that H.I.T. (offered at Pivonka Chiropractic in gilbert) can compare to traditional training right? I want to look at several reasons people generally begin a workout program, and compare the results of H.I.T. and traditional workouts. I believe most people exercise to lose weight, so we will look at that aspect first. There are multiple studies that have been done comparing traditional training and H.I.T. in regards to weight loss. I want to show you just one study (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20473222). In this study the H.I.T. group worked out half the time that the traditional group did. However, the H.I.T. group lost twice the percentage of body fat than the traditional group did. Yes, twice the body fat in half the amount of time!!! One of the reason for this is that H.I.T. has been shown to increase the amount of calories your body burns for several days even when your just sitting on the couch.
Next I want to focus on the strength building aspect of H.I.T. versus traditional training. In this study the H.I.T. group had twice the muscular endurance than the traditionally trained group by the end of the study. (http://blog.sme.sk/blog/3928/155928/Warburton_CAD.pdf).
Finally does H.I.T. also help increase your aerobic threshold? The answer is yes. In this study (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17548726) it showed that H.I.T. participants increased their VO2 max 46% whereas the traditional group only had a 14% increase.
So why use the H.I.T. methodology? I urge you to look at these different studies for yourself. I hope with the information you have been given you dare to ask yourself, “Why not H.I.T?” You can receive twice the results in half the time. To me this seems like one of the easier choices in life. If you’re wondering what high intensity training is, or how it is performed. I invite you to come try a complimentary session with me and see how you can begin seeing results quickly. There are many more advantages of H.I.T., and I look forward to covering more of them in the future.
