Crossfit has become the newest workout sensation. Crossfit gyms are popping up everywhere and more and more people are flocking to them. But is crossfit the end all- end all of exercise or is it just another fad. I thought I would compare Crossfit and Superslow Next Level Fitness training done at Pivonka Chiropractic in gilbert, and let you decide.
Superslow Next Level Fitness and Crossfit are both high intensity exercise routines but are they equal? To deterimine this we will compare workout times, both duration and frequency, the specialization of each program, (in other words how much does the workout cater to you and your specific needs and goals) and we will review the amount of risk of injury involved with performing each program and finally we will look at which one is more cost effective.
First lets take a look at duration and frequency between the two. Crossfit workouts are performed 2 to 3 times a week. An average Crossfit session lasts from 12-40 minutes. So you may spend 30 minutes to 3 hours in the gym doing Crossfit Workouts per week. On the other hand Superslow Next Level Fitness is performed one day per week for 25-30 minutes. So the average Crossfitter is going to spend anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours more per week in the gym and research shows one 20 minute superslow workout produces the same results as lifting for 3 hours per week. Hence the extra time in the gym may just be time wasted.
So what about specialization and adaptability? Can anyone do Crossfit and can it be adapted to your specific needs? Most people have never seen a kipping pull-up, a clean, a deadlift, or an overhead squat. Seeing how those exercises are performed I think you would agree with me when I say NO! Not everyone can do the Olympic style lifts associated with Crossfit. If you want to be able to do all the different WOD (workouts of the day) for Crossfit you must be able to do all these exercises and Olympic style lifts. I don’t see how the average housewife is going to be able to safely perform these lifts that it takes Olympic lifters years to perfect. With Superslow Next Level Fitness at Pivonka Chiropractors in gilbert, we can take any person at any level with any sort of health concern and put them through a safe and effective workout without any worry of injuries occurring. An 80 year old could do Superslow Next Level Fitness. In fact Superslow workouts were actually developed while researching safe strength routines for elderly women with arthritis. But just because Super Slow workouts were developed for the elderly don’t think that they can’t give a younger person who is physically fit a great workout!
Now lets look at safety between Crossfit and Super Slow Next Level Fitness. Crossfit has gotten a lot of publicity regarding safety, unfortunately it’s all negative. When you look at the sudden, quick, explosive movements in Crossfit its easy to see how someone can be injured doing these exercises. Crossfitters are doing lifts that Olympic athletes train their whole lives to perform correctly. Then throw in the aspect that Crossfit wants you to finish each workout faster than your prior one. This sounds like a recipe for disaster with the combination of bad form and heavy weights. There are over 6,000 threads on the subject of injuries on Crossfits very own message board. Take a look for yourself http://board.crossfit.com/. Exercise should never make existing conditions worse or cause new injuries. Superslow Next Level Fitness at Pivonka Chiropractic on the other hand removes the force and injuries by slowing down the movements. Super Slow controlled movements are much safer. Looking through all the published literature on Super Slow workouts you will find zero cases of published injuries due to Super Slow workouts. Also Superslow does not encourage you to go faster for each workout. In fact we want each Super Slow workout to last longer than the last one until your strength builds and you can jump to the Next Level in weight. This ensures you have time to build your strength with perfect form to ensure that you don’t injure yourself. Once you compare the information you will see that Super Slow Next Level Fitness workouts are safer hands down.
Lastly joining a Crossfit gym will cost somewhere between $100-$295 a month. Next Level Fitness runs $140 a month. But when you factor in the saved time, the ability for anyone to do Super Slow workouts and the increased safety. Super Slow Next Level Fitness is by far the better value.
