Finding the Cause and Preventing More Pain
Here at Pivonka Chiropractic in Gilbert AZ our focus has always been to seek out the cause of our patients health issues and correct them. Our motto for 20+ years has been to “help families achieve better health”. What frustrates me though is that most people who come to my office that have seen other chiropractors are looking for just a quick “crack” as they put it to relieve their pain and then be on their way. In most of these cases I will see these patients again returning maybe 3 months to a year later complaining of the same issues. To me this means that the pain is not the issue its the symptom of an issue that is not really being addressed and that issue is chronic spinal misalignment and poor posture.
Daily Stresses Result in Poor Posture
Our current society is littered with opportunities for poor posture. Whether it be looking at your computer all day as you slump in your office chair, or sit in the same position for hours as you drive from account to account, or carrying your heavy back pack on one shoulder as you tromp around school all day, or my new favorite, look down for hours at your cell phone updating your twitter or Facebook, yuck!
Adjustments Alone Don’t Correct Posture or Structure
All of our chronic daily activities place tremendous abnormal loads on your spine. If done for long periods over months and years it is a fact that your spine and posture are going to lose the fight against gravity and move away from their normal alignment and leave you with a body that is going to hurt. Now if you went to your dentist with a cavity and it was causing you pain and all your dentist did was clean your teeth and then shoot some pain killer into your cavity to cover up the pain and then tell you that your good to go and come back when it hurts, would you be happy with your dentist? I hope not! But it seems that in the Chiropractic arena that is perfectly acceptable. Mr. Jones your head is 2 inches in front of your body and it weighs 40 pounds as you sit there at your computer all day, resulting in your daily headaches. Lets just adjust your neck and then lets get you a TENS unit to cover up your pain and lets send you on back out there to work to sit there again with your forward head weighing 40 pounds. Then you can come on back and we’ll get you that quick “crack” again to relieve your pain. It makes no sense to just have pain relief chiropractic. Corrective chiropractic works to solve the problem so the pain goes away.
Corrective Chiropractic Corrects Posture and Structure to Prevent More Pain
Corrective Chiropractic care is a whole different ball game from relief. Corrective Chiropractic care is just that Corrective. This is the drill and fill the cavity type of Chiropractic. There are several methods in the Chiropractic profession that tout correction, but the most researched and validated method is called Chiropractic BioPhysics or CBP. CBP has over 130 studies published to support the fact that the spine has a normal position, that movement away from the published normal position for the spine produces pain and body dysfunction, that the normal position can be achieved and that CBP has been shown to be extremely reliable and predictable in re-achieving normal or improved spinal position. Follow this link to see the studies that validate CBP. http://www.idealspine.com/cbp-research/ So here’s the scenario, Mr. Jones your head is 2 inches in front of your body weighing 40 pounds as you sit at your computer all day, resulting in your daily headaches. I’m recommending a care plan of 3-4 months to rehabilitate your neck curve and head posture back to its normal alignment over your shoulders, all while recommending and teaching you better sitting strategies, thus returning your head to its original 10 pounds and eliminating your daily headaches. How does that sound!
