Pivonka Chiropractic in Gilbert would like to inform you that Aspartame, better known as Nutrisweet or Equal in the US, is apparently being given a new food labeling name of Amino Sweet. Aspartame can on the market in the 80’s and was touted as a “Sugar Substitute” and began the diet soda revolution. The belief was that too much sugar was bad for you and that these “Artificial” sweeteners would help people lose weight and avoid negative health consequences.
Now the scientific community knew back then that Aspartame was not necessarily safe but they were willing to overlook it. Since then a myriad of studies have shown the negative health affects of consuming aspartame. Affects ranging from weight gain to cancer have all been linked to Aspartame consumption. The most common vehicle for consuming Aspartame is in Diet Sodas. Studies have shown that the average Diet Soda drinker will gain on average 9 pounds per year. So much for Diet Soda. Aspartame when metabolized in the body also breaks down into methanol which is toxic for the body and has a narcotic effect on the brain. Hence when someone says they can’t go without their Diet Soda they are right because they are addicted to it.
Aspartame has also been linked to cancer. The FDA’s own toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross informed Congress that without a shadow of a doubt, aspartame can cause brain tumors and brain cancer and that it violated the Delaney Amendment, which forbids putting anything in food that is known to cause cancer.
It is these negative health affects that have now given Aspartame a somewhat bad name. So the FDA instead of pulling it from the market has instead decided to allow the product to be re branded to AminoSweet. The reason being is that people will think thats it new and therefore must be safe. So look for this change coming to the market soon and make yourselves aware that consuming Aspartame or AminoSweet or Nutrisweet or Equal of any artificial sweeteners is going to have negative effects on your health.
