Each and every year, some “expert” comes out with a surefire way to lose weight. A celebrity endorses it, and it gets a bit of buzz. Then next thing you know, someone in your life tries it, and shows some results, so you gallop off, shell out some money to buy the book, get some nutritionally deficient food, and concentrate all of your efforts on weight loss. And unfortunately, you’ve been set up. As a caring chiropractor, we don’t want to see anyone get set up and fall into the same sad trap that a lot of our patients fall into: the diet cycle.
What is a diet cycle? Simple. You go on the _______ Diet. You buy a book with cheery, thin, healthy looking people on the cover dressed in tank tops and leotards, holding up measuring tapes, and you think to yourself: “I can look just like them!” So you begin the diet, and lose weight, well for a while anyway. Then inexplicably, you find that you plateau, and then all of the weight you lose comes back with interest. Then the next diet craze comes out. Maybe eat like a caveman, or eat nothing but meat and cheese. Maybe you can cook some chicken breast with Acai berries, or only eat once every 24 hours. And still, you look nothing like the perky people on the cover of the book. We at Pivonka Family Chiropractic have only a few words to say on this subject. Namely: “Ok, that’s enough of this foolishness!”
The people on the cover of that book are more than likely Photoshopped. If they really are as thin as they appear on that book, what you don’t know is that the diet they’re shilling has nothing to do with their weight loss.
